Teltonika's heart monitoring wristband available in pharmacies and clinics

Major pharmacies and healthcare centres in Lithuania have launched sales of TeltoHeart, Teltonika's smart medical wristband. This telemedicine device is designed to help people with heart rhythm problems.

TeltoHeart wristband

The TeltoHeart wristband monitors heart rhythm and automatically detects atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias. If the device registers an arrhythmia or the wearer feels unwell due to a change in their heart rate, it is recommended to do an electrocardiogram (ECG) using TeltoHeart. The data recorded by the wristband should be sent to a physician, who can diagnose the problem and prescribe the necessary treatment.

"Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in Lithuania. Statistically, nearly one in two deaths is associated with these diseases. They are most effectively treated when diagnosed early, and nowadays, smart wearable devices like our TeltoHeart wristband can help. This telemedicine product is unique in that it can automatically detect arrhythmias and record a six-derivation ECG. In comparison, other conventional wearable devices record heart rhythms using only a single-derivative ECG, but this data is insufficient for an accurate diagnosis," says Martynas Osauskas, CEO of Teltonika Telemedic, part of the Teltonika company group.

The TeltoHeart wristband can be purchased in Lithuania from Teltonika's partners. Clinics such as Hila, Northway, Kardiolitos Clinics, and others offer medical consultations regarding the TeltoHeart wristband. The device is also available in the biggest Benu and Gintarinė chain pharmacies in Vilnius, Kaunas, and Klaipėda. Larger orders in Lithuania are handled by distributors Litfarma and Neurovita.

The TeltoHeart smart wristband (its firmware and hardware) is entirely CE MDR (Class I and IIa) certified as a medical device. This approval confirms that the product complies with the comprehensive quality standards for medical devices. It also verifies that TeltoHeart is a safe and reliable product that provides accurate medical diagnostic data to patients and medical care providers.

Cardiologists recognise the benefits of TeltoHeart

Lithuanian cardiologists have praised the capabilities of this wristband, finding it useful for the effective diagnosis of heart diseases. According to Justinas Bacevičius, a cardiologist at Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Clinics, this smart medical wristband helps to assess a person's heart condition and detect rhythm irregularities right when they occur, both in the case of asymptomatic and symptomatic arrhythmias. TeltoHeart is also helpful for preventative monitoring.

"Heart rhythm abnormalities that are not treated in a timely manner can lead to heart attacks or heart failure. We can diagnose a heart condition only by taking an electrocardiogram, which shows the heart's activity. In simple phrasing, we are the electricians of the heart; we need to observe its objective electrical stimuli. This may differ substantially from the patient's subjective description.

The problem is that heart rhythm irregularities can be temporary, lasting only a few seconds, and can occur at any time of the day, so an ECG taken in the clinic may not detect any abnormalities. Until now, patients have usually had to wear a Holter device for a day or two, but its longer use causes various inconveniences. Also, according to the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) guidelines, Holter is only prescribed if the arrhythmia occurs at least once a week. In all other cases, Holter usually does not detect the arrhythmia. In such cases, the guidelines recommend the use of new medically certified wearable devices for long-term monitoring. TeltoHeart is a comfortable, fully medically certified wristband. It is the world's first device that combines continuous pulse wave monitoring and a 6-derivation electrocardiogram without any additional wires," says J. Bacevičius.

The research shows that the TeltoHeart heart monitoring device produces more accurate and specific data, regardless of the number of premature beats, than smartwatches measuring only a single-lead electrocardiogram. The latter generally do not have medical certification or only have software for recreational use.

Wristband developed in collaboration with scientists

Scientists from Kaunas University of Technology developed the prototype of the TeltoHeart's algorithm. Specialists from Vilnius University and Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Clinics have also contributed to the system's improvement. Then, Teltonika has implemented these scientific innovations and adapted them to the needs of the telemedicine market. The company group developed the TeltoHeart smart wristband, the MyHealth App medical software, and the TeltoCare data display ecosystem for patients and physicians.

Teltonika's telemedicine products are being sold directly through offices in Dubai, Bengaluru, Milan, Warsaw, and Manchester and through strategic distribution partners for medical devices.
